Geico !!! So Easy a Caveman Could Do It ????
Car insurance. So many ways to market it, but Geico took a different approach. However, the question is why did they chose to use cavemen to do so? First, ask yourself how do people consider cavemen? Well, most people consider cavemen to be dumb, unkempt, and savage-like, which is probably a good assumption. But, then again why use such a dumb creature to sell something? The reason is to show even the dumbest people or even the average population thatGeico’s car insurance is easy to obtain. I mean a person would have to be really dumb to not be able to do something a caveman could do, or at least that is my opinion, biased or not.
Geico chooses to market to the common people in the population by using a simple method of making the task of obtaining their insurance seem like an everyday task, instead of a whole process involving a person’s time and money, like the usual insurance process usually goes. In this commercial, there is a news show, with a male Geico representative,taping a commercial, saying that ” Geico, so easy that a caveman could do it.” When in actuality, that statement really means, “If you can’t obtain Geico car insurance the you’re dumb?” Now come on who really wants to be called dumb. So, of course it is intended that every person who sees this commercial and most likely has a car will obtain Geico’s car insurance to prove that they’re not dumb, but smart and getting a good deal.
In addition to the Geico representative, they also have a caveman in the commercial getting offended, which brings up the question again “Who likes to be called dumb or even have it implied that they’re dumb?” And again the answer is NO ONE. Talk about adding insult to injury.
All in all, it seems that Geico is using a form of reverse psychology, although not direct to market to their customers. Basically, since they imply that people are dumb, in return they will do the opposite to prove them wrong. Therefore, they will subsequently accomplish Geico’s goal of selling their insurance.

Interesting, Briana. The cavemen have been pretty popular, I’d like to talk about them in class.
I <3 the Geico Gecko. The punch lines to most of the commercials are flawless and they definitely convey their points. =]

I feel that by Geico saying its so easy, a cave man can do it, they are lowering the standards of their customers. While its great that they offer a simple service that’s easy to use, it’s almost insulting to our intelligence, as if we are at the level of a caveman, and need the simplicity.
